find

The find command will search through your directories for a file matching your search string.

$ find ~ -name script.sh

The above command will search recursively starting in your home directory for a file named “script.sh”

grep

The grep command is used to search through a file for a specified pattern. This pattern is referred to as a regular expression.

$ grep pattern filename
